Sweet Home Alabama!

Greetings from the Tiffin Motorhomes service centre in Red Bay, Alabama.

We arrived here yesterday and although we have visited before, now owning a motorhome it feels different!

Bob Tiffin founded Tiffin Motorhomes in 1972 and since then the company has built and sold over 65,000 vehicles. Mr. Tiffin is known in the industry for being a call away should you ever need anything, ever, and stories abound about him coming to the rescue when people get stuck while on the road.

This service centre exists to enable coach owners to have repairs and adjustments made throughout the life of the vehicle. It was Bob Tiffin who suggested we come here after meeting him at the Houston Recreational Vehicle show a few weeks ago where we excitedly shared with him that we were about to take ownership of our own vehicle. Mr. Tiffin suggested we drive the 140 miles from Mississippi and sit here in the service centre "camp" where we can spend time getting to learn about our new vehicle and asking all the questions we have of the technicians who work here daily! What a great idea, and so here we are!

What is a surprise is that there are over 90 parking spaces for motorhomes, each with their own electricity, water and sewer connections, are there are motorhomes in every available space of this "camp." There is an "owner" lounge with a pet-friendly section where one can sit and read, watch TV, play board games, whatever. There is a parts section, a laundry, showers, branded-gift store and, of course, fellow coach owners who seem to do nothing other than chat to you!

There are also some 50 covered bays where, around 6.30 a.m. coaches start moving into place for their scheduled repairs.

Even more surprising is that motorhome owners travel with a variety of four-legged friends, and an even more eclectic range of vehicles in tow. There are Harley Davison bikes, jeeps decked out with racks for cycling bikes and canoes/kayaks and one guy is even towing a truck with a golf cart loaded into it!

We are due to see the technicians on Wednesday to have some adjustments made in our new vehicle and in the meantime we continue to "press buttons" and check that everything is working!

Wifi in the camp ground is too spotty to upload photos, but I will try again!
